![]() ![]() That should hint to the listener just how heavy the use of samples and sound effects are across the rest of the album. This segment lasts an impressive time before the music actually kicks in. The very first thing heard on the album is various sounds of gunfire, then followed by a dialogue sample. Let's talk about samples and effects - 'East Side Militia' features A LOT of them. Combining all these different sounds across the album adds a sense of dynamism, and makes the package a lot more intriguing to sit through. This adds even more variety to the album. There are aggressive vocals, sinister droning vocals, relaxed vocals, and unhinged whiny vocals. There is also a range of vocal styles - from different singers and variants in Dylan More's voice. And then there are the more gloomy songs. #Haloblack chemlab remix fullThen there are tracks full of bass and padding, creating a very chill mood or even a trippy feeling. There are some very guitar-centric songs that have much more of a dance vibe to them (of course in a dark setting). The range of sounds from song to song also make the album a lot more interesting and appealing to me. I think the placement and spread of the contrasting tracks is well done and the flow is pretty smooth (even when the transitions themselves are very sudden and aggressive.) The lower intensity tracks tend to be a little longer too, which gives a nice break between the fast and loud tracks. There is a really nice balance of high intensity tracks like 'Exile On Mainline' and 'Latex', contrasted with slower tracks like 'Vera Blue (96/69)' and 'Lo-Grade Fever'. But I have to say, I really do like this album!Īfter finishing the whole album, the first thing that stuck out to me was the variety and pacing. To me, the album really did feel like a nice chunk of pure 90's sound (but then I myself never experienced the 90's so perhaps my perspective is skewed eh). If I had to describe my thoughts on it in a single sentence I'd say as an industrial record, it felt familiar but different. The first and only album I've listened to by Chemlab so far is 1996's 'East Side Militia'. ![]()
